Otiende Amollo Breaks Silence on Raila-Ruto Deal, Reveals What Was Agreed Beyond 2027

Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo has reignited debate over the political agreement between former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and President William Ruto, insisting that the arrangement was only meant to last until the 2027 General Election.

Amollo said Raila never promised that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) would continue working with Ruto beyond 2027, dismissing any suggestion that the cooperation automatically guaranteed a long-term political partnership.

The legislator argued that the understanding between the two leaders had a defined timeline and should not be interpreted as an open-ended commitment.

He also raised concerns about the distribution of Cabinet positions, questioning the level of representation enjoyed by the Luo community compared to the Mount Kenya region.

Amollo made the remarks while addressing the political discussions surrounding ODM’s cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza administration and the growing debate over the party’s future ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to the Rarieda MP, the agreement negotiated by Raila was not a permanent political arrangement but a temporary understanding whose lifespan was expected to end with the next General Election.

He further questioned the distribution of senior government positions, claiming that the Mount Kenya region had received significantly more Cabinet representation than the Luo community.

“Raila only said we would work with Ruto until 2027, not beyond. Mt Kenya has 8 Cabinet Secretaries, we (Luos) have 2,” Amollo stated.

His remarks come amid growing disagreements within ODM over the party’s continued cooperation with President Ruto and whether it should maintain the arrangement beyond the 2027 elections.

The cooperation between ODM and UDA has remained a major subject of discussion, particularly following Raila’s decision to support a broad-based government arrangement after the formation of the current administration’s expanded political framework.

However, different voices within ODM have continued expressing varying positions on the future of the relationship, with some supporting continued engagement while others insist that the party must maintain its independence.

Amollo’s comments also bring the question of regional representation in government back into the political conversation, particularly as leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.

With the succession debate gaining momentum, the legislator’s remarks underline the unresolved questions surrounding the duration of ODM’s cooperation with UDA, the distribution of government appointments and the party’s political direction after 2027.
