Obeng Darko Blasts Javits Frimpong’s Father For Taking Him To New York In Search Of Better Education

According to a report by The BBC Ghana today being Monday, November 2, 2026, social commentator and author, Obeng Darko, has sparked public debate after criticising the decision by the father of the late Javits Frimpong to take his son from Ghana to New York in search of better educational opportunities and an improved future.

Following the young man’s death, Obeng Darko took to social media to question whether travelling outside Ghana in pursuit of better education and a comfortable life was worth the risks associated with such decisions.

In his post, the commentator expressed concern about the increasing tendency of parents to send their children abroad, particularly to countries they believe offer better educational opportunities and improved living conditions.

He suggested that parents should reconsider such decisions and allow their children to pursue their academic ambitions in Ghana rather than exposing them to uncertainties and potential dangers in foreign countries.

According to him, the desire to secure a brighter future for children should not necessarily mean taking them away from their home country, especially when their safety and well-being could be at risk.

Obeng Darko made his position clear in a social media statement, where he questioned the benefits of seeking better opportunities abroad following the tragic incident involving Javits Frimpong.

“Which better life or opportunity? Let these young ones continue their education in Ghana. RIP Frimpong,” he wrote.

His comments have since generated discussions on social media, with the incident drawing attention to the decisions parents make when seeking better opportunities for their children outside Ghana.

The debate has also renewed conversations about the safety of young Africans travelling abroad for education, the challenges they may encounter in foreign countries, and whether pursuing academic opportunities overseas always guarantees a better future.
