Lapaz Boy Cries After Kejetia Phone Dealer Dupes Him With Glass Inside iPhone Case
A young boy from Lapaz in Accra has been left heartbroken after he was duped by a street phone dealer at Kumasi’s Kejetia Market.
The boy, who had travelled from Accra to Kumasi, went to the busy Kejetia Market to do a phone swap. He had a Samsung Galaxy A15 and wanted to exchange it for a higher phone.
At the market, he met a street phone dealer who promised him a good deal. The dealer told him he could give him a neat iPhone 13 if he added some money.
According to the report, the dealer asked the boy to bring his Samsung Galaxy A15 plus an additional Gh¢300 to get the iPhone 13. The offer sounded sweet and the boy thought he was making a good deal. He did not know it was a trap.
He quickly handed over his Samsung phone and the Gh¢300 cash to the dealer. The dealer then gave him what looked like an iPhone 13 inside a phone case.
But the boy got the shock of his life when he opened it. There was no iPhone inside. What was inside the phone cover was just a piece of screen glass cut to look like a phone.
By the time the boy realised he had been scammed, the dealer had already vanished into the huge crowd at Kejetia Market. Kejetia is one of the biggest and busiest markets in Ghana, so it is easy for such dealers to disappear after duping people.
The young boy was left standing there confused, with no phone and no money. He had lost his Samsung Galaxy A15 and his Gh¢300 at once.
The story, which is now trending on social media, has got many Ghanaians talking. Many people are sympathising with the boy and blaming these street phone dealers who are known for such tricks.
Others are also advising the public to be very careful when buying or swapping phones on the street. They say people should always go to proper phone shops and not trust these quick deals on the roadside. They also say if a deal looks too good to be true, it is probably a scam.
For now, the Lapaz boy has gone back home with nothing, and many are calling on the police at Kejetia to clamp down on these fraudulent phone dealers who keep duping innocent buyers.
