Just Hours After Ditching UDA for ODM, Sakaja Reveals Who Convinced Him to Join the Party

A major political twist has emerged after Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja made an emotional revelation about his relationship with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, popularly known as Baba.

Sakaja disclosed that it was Raila himself who encouraged him to join the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), a revelation that has attracted attention amid his latest political realignment.

The Nairobi governor’s remarks come at a time when Kenya’s political landscape is gradually shifting ahead of the 2027 General Election. His departure from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) marks a significant development, particularly considering his previous association with President William Ruto’s political camp.

In his revelation, Sakaja made it clear that his connection with ODM was not simply a political arrangement initiated by current party officials. According to him, Raila had personally encouraged him to become part of the Orange party.

The revelation has added another emotional dimension to Sakaja’s political journey, especially because Raila is no longer alive to witness the developments.

For ODM supporters, the governor’s remarks could be seen as an important reminder of the influence Raila had on leaders beyond his traditional political supporters.

However, his move is also likely to generate debate within ODM, considering the ambitions of other leaders who may be eyeing the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2027.

The incident sparked reactions online, with many people left talking about what Raila’s personal influence could mean for the party’s future. Supporters appeared divided, with some welcoming Sakaja while others are likely to demand clarity about his political ambitions.

What happens next could shape the political battle for Nairobi.

Do you think Sakaja’s decision to join ODM will strengthen the party ahead of 2027, or create fresh political tensions?
