“I Have No Personal Problem With William Ruto” – Fred Matiang’i
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has addressed his relationship with President William Ruto, making it clear that he has no personal differences with the Head of State despite the political discussions surrounding their positions.
In a statement shared by Nairobi Leo on November 1, 2026, Matiang’i explained that he has consistently maintained that he does not have a personal problem with President Ruto, even when religious leaders previously questioned him about his relationship with the President.
Matiang’i recalled that whenever spiritual leaders asked whether he had a problem with Ruto, his response remained the same. He insisted that his position had not changed, emphasising that there was no personal disagreement between them.
“I have no personal problem with William Ruto,” Matiang’i stated, reiterating that he had maintained the same position even when the question was raised during engagements involving religious leaders.
His remarks are likely to attract attention within Kenya’s political circles, particularly as the country continues to witness political realignments and discussions ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The statement also provides an opportunity to distinguish between personal relationships and political differences, which often become intertwined in Kenya’s competitive political environment.
Matiang’i previously served in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration, holding the Interior Cabinet Secretary position before the end of the former administration. His public statements therefore continue to attract interest as political players position themselves ahead of the next electoral contest.
However, his latest remarks do not necessarily indicate a political agreement or alliance with Ruto. Rather, they communicate his position that political engagement should not automatically be interpreted as personal hostility.
The President and the former Interior CS remain prominent figures in Kenya’s political conversation, making their public statements important to observers following the country’s changing political landscape.
As political conversations ahead of 2027 continue, Kenyans will be watching how different leaders articulate their positions and relationships with one another.
