Former MP Ngunjiri Wambugu Takes Fresh Swipe At Fred Matiang’i Over Gachagua Dispute

Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has criticised Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang’i over his political approach, raising questions about the party’s future direction and internal unity. In a statement shared on Monday, November 2, Wambugu questioned why Matiang’i was publicly challenging former DP Rigathi Gachagua over his remarks on the opposition’s political formation while allegedly pursuing a different agenda within Jubilee.

Matiang’i had criticised Gachagua for suggesting that three communities could form the next government, arguing that Kenya’s leadership should embrace all communities rather than rely on ethnic numbers.

However, Wambugu alleged that the Jubilee leader was simultaneously working to position the party as a political vehicle for only two communities.

He also questioned how Matiang’i intended to manage the challenges facing Jubilee while engaging in disagreements with party members who have been confronting Gachagua politically.

Wambugu’s remarks add to the growing debate surrounding Jubilee’s leadership, political alliances and preparations ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The remarks highlight emerging differences over the party’s identity and its relationship with other opposition leaders.
