Embu Woman Destroys Husband’s Grave Seconds After Burial, Confesses The Pain The Family Caused Her
Mercy Wanja Nyaga has attracted attention following a dispute over the burial of a man she claims was her husband. The woman reportedly visited his gravesite in Embu County and removed a cross and flowers after expressing dissatisfaction with how the burial was conducted.
The incident involved the late Simon Ndwiga Njoka, a retired Kenya Forest officer who died at the age of 69. According to a report by TUKO.co.ke, Wanja claims she had three children with the deceased and wanted them to be included in his final send off.
The disagreement reportedly began before the burial, with Wanja saying there had been an arrangement for the family to meet at 9am on Monday, November 2, before proceeding with the burial.
However, she later discovered that Njoka had already been laid to rest at around 8am. The unexpected development left her frustrated, as she believed the agreed arrangements had not been followed.
Wanja maintained that she and her children should have been given an opportunity to participate in the ceremony and pay their last respects.
The matter had reportedly been brought before the Embu Magistrate Court. On October 29, the court issued an order directing that Njoka be buried at the family graveyard while allowing Wanja to participate in the burial.
Despite the order, the burial took place earlier than the time she says had been agreed upon.
Deceased’s Relatives Explain Their Decision
Njoka’s relatives reportedly defended the decision to conduct the burial early, pointing to the financial difficulties they had experienced following his death.
A nephew of the deceased said the family had spent considerable money on hospital and mortuary expenses and could not afford additional costs associated with a larger burial ceremony.
The family explained that holding the burial earlier was an attempt to reduce expenses.
Njoka’s mother, Josephina Weruma, also reportedly said she had not known about Wanja’s alleged relationship with her son or the children before his death.
The disagreement has brought attention to the challenges families sometimes face when burial arrangements become complicated by unresolved relationships and competing expectations.
The incident also underscores the importance of communication among relatives and respect for legal directions when disagreements arise over the final arrangements for a loved one.
