Edwin Sifuna Braves Heavy Rain in Kwale, Chases Away Aide Who Tried to Shield Him With Umbrella

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has attracted attention online after declining an umbrella while addressing residents during a rainy public gathering.

A video circulating on social media shows the senator speaking to a crowd when one of his team members approaches him with an umbrella. Sifuna politely asks the man to move away, explaining that he would rather experience the rain alongside the people listening to him.

The senator tells his team member that everyone should get rained on together if the weather affects the entire gathering. He adds that he is not made of sugar, suggesting that the rain would not harm him.

His remarks reportedly sparked laughter and applause from the crowd, with many people appreciating his decision to remain exposed to the rain instead of seeking special treatment.

The incident occurred during Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi outreach, an initiative through which he has been visiting different parts of the country to interact with residents and discuss issues affecting them.

The gathering took place in Samburu, where residents turned up wearing white shirts and caps branded Samburu Kwanza. Despite the rainy weather, many remained at the event to listen to the senator.

Sifuna also serves as the Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement. He has frequently attracted public attention through his outspoken political views and interactions with ordinary Kenyans.

The latest video has generated reactions from social media users, with some praising him for displaying humility and solidarity with the people.

For supporters who appreciated the gesture, the moment demonstrated the importance of leaders sharing the same conditions as the people they address.

The incident has also sparked conversations about leadership and the significance of connecting with citizens beyond political speeches and promises.
