Javits Frimpong moved to New York from Ghana last year to be with his father and begin a new life in the US, according to Representative Ritchie Torres, a Democrat from the Bronx.

Frimpong was shot in the abdomen on Thursday morning on his way to school and later died in the hospital, according to New York City police.

There have been no arrests in the case so far, with police investigating the shooting.

“I just got off the phone with President Trump and he has agreed to grant her visa immediately,” Mamdani posted on X.

“The murder of a child is a pain no parent should have to endure, let alone from thousands of miles away,” he wrote. “Javits Frimpong’s mother deserves to say goodbye to her son in person.”
