DA gives Ekurhuleni 24hrs to pay waste services, or the DA will put the waste crisis on the Mayor’s doorstep
The DA in Ekurhuleni is giving the City until close of business tomorrow to pay outstanding amounts owed to waste management service providers. If the City fails to meet this deadline, we will dump rubbish at the municipality’s headquarters to hold those responsible accountable for the growing waste crisis.
The closure of five landfills and most waste transfer sites, reportedly due to non-payment of service providers, has pushed Ekurhuleni towards a waste management disaster.
Residents and businesses are paying the price for the City’s failure to ensure that essential services continue uninterrupted.
The City has acknowledged refuse collection disruptions across various areas and announced recovery operations for Thursday, 29 October. However, residents cannot be expected to tolerate mounting rubbish while the municipality issues apologies instead of resolving the underlying problem.
The City cannot claim to work for residents while failing to pay the service providers responsible for keeping their communities clean.
We demand urgent payment of outstanding amounts and the restoration of normal waste management operations. Municipal leaders must stop passing the burden of their failures onto residents.
If the deadline passes without action, DA gives Ekurhuleni 24hrs to pay waste services, or the DA will put the waste crisis on the Mayor’s doorstep.
If elected to govern, I will partner with the private sector to deliver services to the people of Ekurhuleni.
A clean environment and an operational city will attract investment and create jobs.
On 4 November, you have the power to vote out the chaos and choose service delivery.
