Botlhale Boikanyo Takes Poetry to Soweto Derby

South African poet Botlhale Boikanyo has taken her talent to one of the country’s biggest sporting occasions, bringing poetry to the Soweto Derby.

The poet recently had the opportunity to perform at the highly anticipated football clash between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, which took place at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday, October 31, 2026.

Orlando Pirates walked away victorious after defeating their rivals 2–1, but the occasion also created a memorable moment for Boikanyo, who used her voice to celebrate South African football and its achievements.

The poet shared a clip of her performance, giving fans a glimpse of her experience at the stadium. Her appearance was particularly special as she used her poetry to usher football legend Thierry Henry onto the pitch during the massive sporting event.

Reflecting on the experience, Boikanyo described the opportunity as a dream come true, expressing gratitude for being part of such a significant moment in South African sport.
