“Bayelsa Is PDP & PDP Is Bayelsa,You Can’t Sell Our State Because Of Your 2nd Term Ambition–Dickso
According to a report by Daily Post, on Monday, November 2, 2026, the National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson, has criticised Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, over his decision to align the state with the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing him of surrendering a state traditionally associated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling party for his personal political interest.
Dickson expressed dissatisfaction with the governor’s political decision, arguing that Bayelsa should remain under the political influence of the PDP rather than be handed over to another party.
He maintained that the state’s political identity was closely connected to the PDP and accused Diri of placing his personal ambitions above the interests of the party and its supporters.
The NDC leader also suggested that the governor’s decision was motivated by his political calculations ahead of the 2027 general election, particularly his ambition to secure another term in office.
Dickson made the remarks during a political visit to his home state of Bayelsa and his community, Toru-Orua, where he was accompanied by the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, the Director-General of the NDC National Campaign Council, Mallam Ibrahim Abdulkarim, and other party leaders.
The visit formed part of the political activities involving the party’s leadership as it continued its engagement with communities and political stakeholders.
During the visit, Dickson addressed supporters and spoke about the political situation in Bayelsa State, focusing on Governor Diri’s relationship with the APC and the implications of his decision for the PDP.
He used the occasion to express his disagreement with the governor’s political direction and reaffirmed his position that Bayelsa should maintain its longstanding association with the PDP.
The former Bayelsa State governor expressed disappointment that Diri had allegedly handed over the state’s political structure to the APC despite the PDP’s longstanding presence and influence in the state.
He described Bayelsa as a traditional stronghold of the PDP and questioned the decision to align with the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Dickson argued that the governor’s political ambitions should not determine the political direction of the entire state, particularly when such a decision could affect the interests of other party members and supporters.
He also accused Diri of sacrificing the political identity of Bayelsa for his personal ambition, insisting that the governor should not use his position to alter the state’s political allegiance for individual benefits.
Dickson’s criticism centred on the political relationship between Bayelsa State and the PDP, a party that has maintained a significant presence in the state over the years.
He maintained that the people of Bayelsa should not allow the state’s political identity to be determined by the personal interests of an individual political officeholder.
According to him, the governor’s decision to move closer to the APC represented a departure from the political tradition associated with the state.
The NDC leader further linked the development to the forthcoming 2027 general election, alleging that Diri’s actions were connected to his second-term ambition.
He insisted that the political future of Bayelsa should be determined by the interests of its people and not by the personal calculations of its governor.
The presence of Peter Obi and other NDC leaders during the political visit also provided an opportunity for Dickson to address the party’s supporters and discuss the political situation in his home state.
By speaking in Toru-Orua, his community, the former governor made his position on Diri’s political alignment clear, particularly his disagreement with the governor’s decision to associate Bayelsa with the APC.
His remarks also highlighted the disagreements surrounding the political allegiance of the state as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general election.
Dickson maintained that the PDP’s historical connection with Bayelsa should not be disregarded because of the political ambitions of an individual, while accusing the governor of using the state’s political position to advance his personal interests.
Addressing the issue during the visit, Dickson emphasised that Bayelsa’s political identity was inseparable from the Peoples Democratic Party and warned against what he described as the governor’s decision to surrender the state to the APC for his second-term ambition.
He maintained that Diri should not sacrifice the political interests of the state for personal political gains, stressing his disagreement with the governor’s decision ahead of the next general election.
He said, “Bayelsa is PDP and PDP is Bayelsa. You cannot sell our state because of your second term ambition.”
