2 Limpopo brothers shot dead days apart as sister fights for life

LIMPOPO – The Tshiambaro family is living in fear after two brothers were shot dead within days of each other, while their sister is fighting for her life in hospital following the latest shooting.

The family’s ordeal began when Musina businessman Israel Tshiambaro was shot and killed at his business in Matswale Phase 12 on October 16. Before his funeral could take place, his elder brother, Lybon Tshiambaro (44) was also shot dead, while their 33-year-old sister was wounded in a shooting at Harabali village last Saturday at around 20:00.

The latest incident has left the family and community in shock, with relatives questioning who could be responsible. Some family members fear that someone may be deliberately targeting them and are worried about who could be the next victim.

Police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder.

According to spokesperson Captain Vuledzani Dathi, police officers were on night shift duty when they received a report of the shooting. Upon arrival at the scene, they found Lybon lying dead in a pool of blood and his sister suffering from gunshot wounds.

According to information received by the police, the injured woman was travelling with her older brother from Mutititi village to Harabali village. They were on their way to buy funeral flowers as they made arrangements for the burial of their younger brother, Israel, who had been shot and killed in Musina on October 16.

The woman reportedly noticed a vehicle with Gauteng registration plates following them, although she could not see the full registration number. When they arrived at the premises where they intended to buy the flowers, they stopped at the gate. The vehicle passed them and stopped some distance away.

The siblings then entered the yard to collect the flowers, and upon exiting, the vehicle made a U-turn. Two unidentified men approached them before opening fire.

The woman tried to flee with the flower seller but fell and was shot in the leg. Her brother was unable to escape and was shot, causing him to fall to the ground. One of the suspects reportedly approached him and continued shooting.

Lybon sustained four gunshot wounds to the head. Police found approximately 10 spent cartridges at the scene. The motive for the shooting remains unknown. The injured woman was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

A family member, who asked to remain anonymous for fear of victimisation, said the family was struggling to understand why their relatives had been targeted.

“As a family, we are asking ourselves questions without answers.

“We are still in shock and mourning our loved one while making the final preparations for his burial. Now another death has shocked us, and we are asking who is responsible for this. It is very hard to accept what has happened.”

He appealed to the police to intensify their efforts to track down the suspects and ensure that they face justice. “They do not deserve to live among other people. They are dangerous, like wild animals, and need to be locked away for the rest of their lives,” he said.

The family is now facing the prospect of preparing for another funeral following the latest tragedy.
