“We Will Not Accept Ruto Without Western Votes” Atwoli Sends Strong Message Over 2027 Politics

Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli has made a strong political statement about the support President William Ruto received from different parts of the country.

He argued that several communities contributed many votes to Ruto’s victory and should be recognised in discussions about the country’s political future as debate over future alliances gathers pace.

Atwoli said the Luhya, Nyanza, Coast, Western, North Eastern and Rift Valley communities together accounted for more than 10 million votes for Ruto.

He stressed that the President’s support came from several regions, rather than one community alone. The post carried the date October 31, 2026.

Atwoli also made a pointed comment about the Luhya community and its political role.

He said the community would not accept a situation in which Ruto was chosen as president without votes from Western.
