Otto Addo reports Ghana to FIFA for unfair treatment of bonuses & wages

According to report by Ghanasportspage on Sunday 1, November 2026, former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has reportedly lodged a complaint against the Ghana Football Association (GFA) with FIFA over outstanding financial obligations following the termination of his contract in March 2026.

The 50-year-old coach is seeking more than $750,000 in unpaid salaries, bonuses and other contractual entitlements, after allegedly failing to reach an agreement with the GFA regarding payments owed to him following his departure from the national team.

According to reports, Addo is demanding approximately 15 months of unpaid wages, in addition to other benefits provided for under his contract with the football governing body.

The financial dispute follows the GFA’s decision to terminate his second spell as head coach of the Black Stars after a disappointing series of international friendly matches in March 2026.

The association announced Addo’s immediate departure on March 31, 2026, following Ghana’s heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria in Vienna and a subsequent 2-1 loss to Germany in Stuttgart. The two results extended the Black Stars’ losing streak to four matches, raising concerns about the team’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

His dismissal came just 72 days before the start of the tournament, at a time when Ghana were preparing for a challenging group-stage campaign against England and other opponents.

Addo returned for his second spell as Ghana’s head coach in March 2024, having previously managed the national team between 2022 and 2023. During his first tenure, he guided the Black Stars to qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Reports indicate that Addo was earning approximately $50,000 monthly under his agreement with the GFA. Based on that figure, 15 months of outstanding salaries would amount to $750,000, excluding bonuses and other contractual benefits he is reportedly demanding.

The decision to refer the matter to FIFA could lead to further scrutiny of the GFA’s contractual obligations and its handling of the former coach’s dismissal.

The dispute also raises questions about the financial responsibilities of football associations when terminating the contracts of national team coaches before the agreed expiration dates.
