Kennedy Agyapong’s Team Dismisses NPP Resignation Rumours, Confirms He Remains a Party Member

The political team of former Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that the prominent politician has resigned from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The reports, which gained attention online on Friday, October 16, 2026, alleged that Mr Agyapong had officially submitted a resignation letter to the party’s National Chairman, John Boadu.

However, Kwasi Kwarteng, a spokesperson for Mr Agyapong’s political team, has rejected the claims, describing them as false and urging the public not to believe the circulating information.

In a statement shared on Facebook, Mr Kwarteng explained that Mr Agyapong was in China conducting business and had not submitted any resignation letter to the NPP or any party official.

He stressed that the former lawmaker remains a member of the party and encouraged the public to disregard the misleading reports.

The clarification comes amid ongoing discussions about Mr Agyapong’s political future following his defeat in the NPP presidential primaries held on January 31, 2026. He contested the position against former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who emerged as the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

Since the primaries, questions have continued to emerge about Mr Agyapong’s relationship with the party, particularly following disagreements involving some party members and leadership figures.

According to a fact-check published by DUBAWA Ghana on October 22, 2026, the claim that Mr Agyapong had resigned from the NPP was false. The organisation also confirmed that his spokesperson had denied the allegation.

For now, the latest clarification from his political team indicates that Mr Agyapong has not formally ended his membership of the NPP.
