I’ve Seen People Mocking This MP For Saying ‘What Did I Thief’ But He Never Said That —Jennifer

According to a Facebook post on November 1, 2026, Political commentator Jennifer Oppong has defended the Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, popularly known as Ernest Kumi, following social media mockery over remarks attributed to him during a heated political exchange.

In a Facebook post, Oppong argued that people criticising the legislator had misrepresented his words, insisting that he said “what did I steal” rather than “what did I thief,” as some social media users had claimed.

“I’ve seen people mocking this MP for saying ‘what did I thief’ but you can hear clearly he never said that. He rather said ‘what did I steal’?” she wrote.

Oppong said she had repeatedly listened to the recording and remained convinced that the MP had been misunderstood.

“I played this many times and I wasn’t wrong,” she added.

Her comments come after a heated confrontation between the Akwatia MP and the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Communications Director, Dennis Edward Aboagye, during JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, October 31, 2026.

According to a report by GHnow, the two politicians exchanged sharp remarks during the discussion, with Aboagye describing the legislator as an “empty lawyer” and a “thief.” Baidoo pushed back against the accusations during the exchange. .

The confrontation subsequently attracted attention on social media, where users discussed the language used by the two men and circulated interpretations of the exchange.

Oppong suggested that the reaction to the MP’s words demonstrated how political disagreements could lead to public ridicule, with individuals focusing on particular expressions rather than the substance of the discussion.

Taking a humorous swipe at the situation, she remarked that politics could be a difficult business, writing in Ghanaian parlance, “Politics deɛ bonsam adwuma paaa ooooo.”

She also pointed out that the individuals involved in the political exchanges were churchgoers, adding laughing emojis to her post.
