“I’ll Not Visit Wamunyoro” Senior Mt Kenya Opposition Leader Says, Exposes This
Jubilee Party Deputy Leader Jeremiah Kioni has dismissed suggestions that he could join other opposition leaders in visiting former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his Wamunyoro residence, insisting that he has neither received an invitation nor heard of any plans for such a meeting.
Speaking during a podcast interview on Saturday night, October 31, 2026, Kioni maintained that although Jubilee was willing to cooperate with other political leaders, he had no intention of visiting Gachagua’s home without an invitation.
“I am not going to visit anybody’s home. But we’ll be working together. Again, I’ve not been invited,” Kioni stated.
The Jubilee deputy leader was specifically asked whether he, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and other party officials were preparing to visit Gachagua at Wamunyoro.
However, Kioni distanced himself from the reported plans, saying he had not received information suggesting that such a delegation was being organised.
He acknowledged that Matiang’i had been holding consultations with different political leaders in Nairobi and confirmed being aware of the former Interior CS’s visits to Gachagua’s residence.
“I have seen Fred meeting, having meetings with the other political leaders in Nairobi. I know he has been to Wamunyoro. I don’t know how many times,” he said.
Despite ruling out a personal visit, Kioni emphasised that political cooperation remained important, arguing that any engagement between opposition leaders should contribute towards building an inclusive national leadership.
He said the country needed a presidency that all Kenyans could identify with rather than one associated with particular political interests.
“But it is good for us to ensure that we also make sure that this presidency is a presidency for all Kenyans,” Kioni added.
He further argued that political activities and negotiations should give citizens a sense of ownership of the country’s leadership.
Kioni’s remarks come amid ongoing consultations among opposition figures as political leaders explore possible cooperation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
