Four Matches Without Victory for Mombasa United After Awendo Loss

Mombasa United’s difficult introduction to the FKF Premier League continued on Sunday after they lost 2-0 to Migori Youth at Awendo Green Stadium, leaving the newly promoted side still searching for their first victory.

Goals from Philemon Nyakwaka and Frederick Ologi condemned Mombasa to another disappointing result as their opponents finally converted a promising start to the season into three points.

The coastal club had entered the match needing a response after three consecutive defeats.

Their opening-day draw against Kenya Police had offered some encouragement, but subsequent losses to KCB, Mara Sugar and Kakamega Homeboyz left them under pressure to improve.

Sunday’s encounter provided another chance to get their campaign moving, particularly against a Migori side that had also failed to win any of its first three matches.

Migori created several opportunities in the first half, with Vincent Wanga, Elly Owande and Nyakwaka all threatening before the hosts eventually broke through from the penalty spot.

Nyakwaka converted two minutes before the interval after a handball inside the penalty area gave Migori the opportunity to take control of the contest.

Mombasa had their own chances before the break, including a header from Rashid Moyo that went over the crossbar.

Jack Watee and Moyo also looked to trouble the home defence, but the visitors could not find the breakthrough they needed.

Their hopes of recovering after the restart were kept alive by goalkeeper Mustapha Oduor, who denied Migori on several occasions.

Nyakwaka also struck the post as the hosts pushed to extend their lead.

However, Mombasa’s resistance ended five minutes before full-time when Frederick Ologi finished from close range after Christopher Koloti delivered a cutback.

The second goal left the visitors with little time to mount a response and confirmed their fourth consecutive match without a victory.

The defeat leaves Mombasa with just one point from their opening four league matches.
