Talanta Stadium Opening: Sakaja to Buy 10,000 Tickets for Local Football Fans
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has pledged 10,000 complimentary tickets to local football enthusiasts ahead of the high-profile exhibition match between German giants Bayern Munich and Dutch powerhouses AFC Ajax at Talanta Sports City on January 5, 2027.
The blockbuster clash will serve as the official commissioning event for the newly built 60,000-seater Raila Odinga International Stadium (Talanta Stadium) in Nairobi, a flagship venue constructed ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Speaking during an engagement with youth and sports stakeholders in Nairobi, Sakaja confirmed that the county government would procure the tickets directly to give ordinary fans, particularly youth from local academies and grassroots teams, an opportunity to experience European football live.
The announcement comes amidst ongoing public discussion regarding the overall funding of the international friendly. However, sports administrators and local fans have warmly received the gesture, noting that exposure to top-tier international clubs will boost local sports tourism and inspire budding talent in the capital.
