Sifuna Organized For Kalonzo To Be Heckled, I Have Voice Messages – Makau Mutua
Professor Makau Mutua has accused Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna of organising the heckling of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka at the launch of the Linda Mwananchi party. He described the act as very primitive.
In a post on X, Mutua alleged that Sifuna planned for Kalonzo to be booed. He went further and claimed he has voice and text messages that back up his accusation. He did not release any of the messages in his post, so the claim remains an allegation for now.
The remarks add to a growing debate over what really happened at the event. Kalonzo was jeered after he said that Sifuna was a party leader and not a presidential candidate, a comment that clearly upset many in the crowd. Eugene Wamalwa, for his part, urged those present to officially welcome Sifuna into the race.
Earlier, Moses Kuria had also alleged that the heckling was staged, drawing comparisons with an incident involving Kalonzo in Mombasa in 2007. Mutua’s claim now gives that line of argument more weight among those who believe the booing was not spontaneous, though neither man has presented public proof so far.
Mutua’s mention of messages is likely to raise pressure on him to reveal what he has. Supporters of Sifuna may dismiss the claim as an attempt to damage him, while Kalonzo’s allies are likely to seize on it to argue that their leader was targeted.
The row shows how tense the race for the opposition’s flag has become. With several leaders eyeing the top seat in 2027, even a single event can quickly turn into a fight over who is united with whom and who is being sidelined. Sifuna has not yet responded to the accusation.
