Senator Olekina Speaks On ODM’s Future After Massive Turnout At Jacaranda Grounds

Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has spoken out following the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) gathering at Nairobi’s Jacaranda Grounds, where party supporters marked the first anniversary of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s death. In a statement shared on Saturday, October 31, Olekina described the event as a significant moment for the party, saying it demonstrated that Raila’s political influence remained strong across the country.

The senator said he attended the gathering alongside Mining Cabinet Secretary Ali Hassan Joho and thousands of supporters who turned up to honour the late ODM leader.

Olekina maintained that ODM remained a strong political movement despite the challenges and disagreements facing it.

He described the party as united and prepared for the political activities ahead, dismissing suggestions that it had lost its influence following Raila’s death.

He also used the occasion to outline his political priorities, particularly the representation of the Maasai community in national leadership and development.

Identifying himself as the Maasai community’s point person in the broad-based government, Olekina said he would continue pushing for the community’s interests to be recognised in national decision-making.

The senator further expressed support for President William Ruto’s administration, saying leaders from Narok and the wider Maa community intended to remain engaged in government.

He added that cooperation with leaders such as Joho and President Ruto would help advance issues involving development, resource protection, inclusion and national unity.Olekina’s remarks come amid ongoing political discussions within ODM over its future direction and relationship with the broad-based government.

His message also signals his continued support for the political arrangement involving ODM and the Kenya Kwanza administration as the country approaches the 2027 General Election.
