Ruto Unveils Major Progress at KSh42 Billion Bomas Convention Centre as Completion Deadline Nears

President William Ruto has shared new footage showing the progress of the construction of the Bomas International Convention Complex in Nairobi, offering Kenyans a fresh look at the transformation of the major government project.

In an update shared on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Ruto posted images and videos highlighting the changes witnessed at the construction site between June and October this year.

The footage shows significant progress, with workers undertaking roofing, exterior finishing and interior installation works as the massive structure continues to take shape.

The development is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen Nairobi’s position as a leading destination for international conferences, business meetings and major exhibitions.

According to Ruto, the Bomas International Convention Complex is designed to improve Kenya’s ability to attract major international events and strengthen its position in the global conference industry.

The facility will have a capacity of approximately 11,000 delegates, making it one of the country’s major conference developments.

Its planned facilities include a 5,000 seat convention hall, a 3,500-seat auditorium, a 2,500 capacity ballroom and additional meeting rooms.

Once completed, the complex is expected to create business opportunities across the hospitality, tourism and transport sectors while increasing Kenya’s capacity to host international gatherings.

However, the project has faced scrutiny over its construction schedule and funding.

The KSh42 billion development, whose construction began in March 2025, initially faced delays, prompting the government to revise its completion deadline to December 31, 2026.

A government inspection conducted in July 2026 established that the main convention centre was 86.21 per cent complete, while Phase One of the entire project stood at 43.66 per cent.

China Road and Bridge Corporation is undertaking the construction, Ruto’s latest update comes as the government pushes to complete the facility, which is expected to strengthen Nairobi’s competitiveness as a major conference destination in Africa.
