KCB Rugby crush Quins to reclaim Impala Floodlit title after 2-year drought

KCB Rugby ended a two-year wait for the Impala Floodlit title, delivering a dominant performance to whip Kenya Harlequin 47-7 and clinch the 2026 edition at the Impala Club.

This victory marked the Bankers’ first Floodlit crown since 2023, and a historic maiden coaching title for Andrew Amonde and Jacob Ojee.

The duo, who boast numerous accolades from their illustrious playing careers, were on the pitch 12 years ago when these two sides last clashed in a Floodies final.

Meanwhile, Quins’ 28-year wait for the Floodies trophy continues, having now managed just three titles from seven Floodlit final appearances.

Continuing their stellar run of form, KCB seized control early after taking the lead in the 11th minute.

Capitalizing on a fielding error by the Quins back winger, Elvis Olukusi picked up a loose ball and set up Branton Lusisa for the opening try.

Seven minutes later, the Bankers doubled their advantage when former Quin Sheldon Kahi dove off a rolling maul, bringing the score to 14-0 following a successful conversion by Brian Wahinya.

Quins briefly hit back in the 21st minute when Alvin Mutachi crossed the whitewash following a quick tap taken by Patrick Wainaina from a penalty.

However, relentless KCB pressure on the Quins back three forced a penalty in the red zone, allowing Fortune Aturo to score the third try off the resulting lineout.

A brilliant charge-down soon led to another KCB try right under the posts, capping off a commanding 28-7 lead at the halftime break.

KCB showed no signs of slowing down after the interval. Festus Shiasi extended the lead with a sharp try before Vincent Onyala added another to push the Bankers past the 40-point mark.

Putting an exclamation point on a comprehensive victory, Elvis Olukusi sealed the rout with an eighth-man pick-and-go for a final try, securing the 2026 Impala Floodlit championship in style.
