Rassie Erasmus Shares Cryptic Voice Note After Tadhg Furlong Escapes Ban
Springboks head coach Rassie Erasmus has caught the attention of rugby fans after sharing a cryptic voice note on social media following the news that Ireland prop Tadhg Furlong had escaped a potential suspension ahead of his side’s clash against South Africa.
Erasmus posted a video on X, formerly known as Twitter, featuring the South African flag alongside a voice note in which he addressed the situation. However, the experienced coach did not explicitly reveal his thoughts on the disciplinary decision, leaving supporters to interpret his message.
The post came shortly after an independent disciplinary committee cleared Furlong following a controversial incident during Leinster’s United Rugby Championship (URC) derby against Munster.
The 33-year-old tighthead prop faced a citing after allegedly grabbing Munster forward Gavin Coombes by the private parts during Leinster’s 24-18 victory over their provincial rivals on Saturday, 24 October 2026.
The incident attracted attention among rugby followers, with Furlong subsequently required to answer to an independent disciplinary committee.
However, the committee unanimously dismissed the charge after reviewing the matter. It ruled that the Ireland international had not committed foul play under Law 9.27 of the sport’s regulations.
The decision meant that Furlong escaped a potential suspension and remained available for Ireland’s upcoming international commitments.
Following confirmation of the disciplinary outcome, Erasmus took to X to share his video featuring the South African flag and an accompanying voice note.
Although the Springboks coach appeared to acknowledge the development, he stopped short of directly criticising the committee or explaining whether the decision would influence South Africa’s preparations.
His post nevertheless attracted attention because of the timing, with Furlong’s availability potentially adding another challenge for the Springboks ahead of their encounter with Ireland.
Furlong is an experienced member of the Irish national team and is regarded as an important figure in their forward pack.
With the disciplinary matter now settled, attention will turn to the highly anticipated meeting between the two rugby nations, as Erasmus and his coaching staff prepare for another demanding international test.
