Mothobi Mvala Completes First Full 90 Minutes Under Cardoso at Sundowns

Mothobi Mvala Offers Significant Support for Mamelodi Sundowns Under Miguel Cardoso

Mamelodi Sundowns have gained a considerable boost as defender Mothobi Mvala played a full 90 minutes for the first time since Miguel Cardoso took over, marking a key advancement in his journey back to full match fitness.

The South African international reached this milestone during the match against Marumo Gallants, indicating his gradual return to form and his increasing reliability for the coaching staff.

Mvala has dealt with injuries and fitness issues recently, limiting his chances for consistent play. However, finishing an entire game is a notable improvement, particularly for a defender who must sustain physical strength, focus, and defensive discipline throughout.

His enhanced availability comes as Sundowns continue to chase their goals in both local and continental competitions, where squad depth and consistency are essential. The return of an experienced defender like Mvala is especially beneficial.

Mvala offers valuable experience, physicality, and defensive prowess to the team. His capability as a centre-back gives Cardoso more tactical flexibility in forming defensive pairings, and his understanding of the club’s expectations is crucial during tough matches.

He has previously shown his importance to Sundowns, especially in crucial games. His club and Bafana Bafana experience further underscores his role as a significant squad member.

However, finishing 90 minutes doesn’t necessarily indicate that Mvala is back to peak form. Sustaining fitness, sharpening match readiness, and avoiding additional injuries will be vital as he aims to become a regular under Cardoso.

His progress could also be advantageous for Bafana Bafana as they prepare for future international duties, assuming he maintains his fitness and performance levels.

For the moment, Mvala’s full match against Marumo Gallants is a positive sign for Sundowns. Upcoming games will reveal whether he can build on this achievement and solidify his position as a reliable defensive asset for the Tshwane giants.
