Meet Nairobi Truck Driver Who Won KSh 102m But Says He Will Continue Doing His Driving Job

Peter Mwaniki, a 47-year-old truck driver and father of four, has no plans to park his lorry despite becoming a multimillionaire overnight. He recently won a KSh 102 million jackpot after correctly predicting the results of all 15 matches in a recent draw.

Mwaniki has spent nearly two decades in Kenya’s transport industry. He was not waiting anxiously for the outcome, and only learned of his win when SportPesa contacted him to say his predictions had made him a millionaire.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, he said the windfall came as a complete surprise and that he did not want to rush into any big decisions. He explained that he will keep up his regular job for at least the next five months while he considers what to do next.

The long-haul driver said his years on the road have shaped how he views money and responsibility. When the call came, his first thoughts went to his wife and children rather than himself.

“I have spent most of my adult life working hard to provide for my family, so this is something I never imagined would happen,” he said. Mwaniki added that he hopes the money will give his children opportunities he could not always afford and make their future more secure.

At the unveiling event, SportPesa Head of Marketing Esther Kange’the congratulated the winner and spoke of the human story behind the prize. She said the company understands what the win means to Mwaniki and the people who depend on him, and expressed hope that he will make thoughtful choices that benefit his family for years.

For now, the road ahead looks much as it did before the draw, except that KSh 102 million now waits for him at the end of every shift.
