Khalwale Has a Message for Ruto, but His Bayern Munich and Ajax Comparison Steals the Show

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has challenged President William Ruto’s re-election prospects, declaring that even bringing European football giants Bayern Munich and Ajax to Kenya will not prevent the President from leaving State House after the 2027 General Election.

In a video circulating on social media, Khalwale addressed Ruto in Swahili, saying: “Hata ulete Bayern Munich na Ajax, baada ya hiyo game, wewe Ruto utaenda nyumbani.”

Translated into English, the statement means: “Even if you bring Bayern Munich and Ajax, after that game, you, Ruto, will go home.”

The remarks appear to link the President’s announcement of a high-profile football match in Nairobi to the wider political contest ahead of the next General Election.

On October 28, 2026, Ruto announced that German club Bayern Munich and Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam would play at the Raila Odinga International Stadium in Nairobi on January 5, 2027. The fixture is expected to mark the official opening of the 60,000-seat facility.

Khalwale’s comments frame the planned sporting event against the backdrop of Kenya’s approaching presidential election, suggesting that a major international football occasion will not determine the political outcome.

The Kakamega senator has also been associated with leaders linked to the Linda Mwananchi political movement, which is positioning itself ahead of the 2027 polls.

His statement adds to the political debate surrounding Ruto’s re-election bid as leaders across the political divide prepare for another closely watched election.
