Kalonzo Announces Major Nyanza Tour Hours After ODM Leaders Urged Him to Join Ruto’s Government

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has announced plans to take his political campaign to Nyanza, a region that has remained an important political battleground ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In an announcement on Saturday, October 31, Wiper revealed that the former Vice President will tour Migori and Homa Bay counties on November 5 and 6.

The tour, dubbed the Ukombozi Tour, is expected to give Kalonzo an opportunity to interact with residents and strengthen his political support in the region.

According to the itinerary released by the party, Kalonzo will begin his Migori tour along the Ntimaru-Kuria route before making stops at Kehancha, Posta Grounds and Migori Town.

On November 6, the Wiper leader will proceed to Homa Bay County, where he is expected to visit the Tom Mboya Mausoleum, Oyugis Town and Homa Bay Town.

The announcement comes at a politically sensitive moment, following fresh calls from several Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders urging Kalonzo to reconsider his position in the opposition.

On Friday, October 30, National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and other ODM leaders criticised the treatment Kalonzo received during the launch of the Linda Mwananchi Movement headquarters in Nairobi.

Kalonzo had faced heckling from a section of supporters while delivering his speech, prompting the leaders to question why a former Vice President was being disrespected.

Wanga and Junet subsequently urged him to consider joining the broad-based government under President William Ruto.

However, Kalonzo has now announced a fresh political tour, signalling his intention to continue engaging voters outside his traditional political strongholds.

His planned visit also comes as opposition leaders continue their discussions on finding a suitable presidential candidate to challenge Ruto in 2027.

Will Kalonzo’s Nyanza tour strengthen his political position amid growing pressure from ODM leaders?
