Irene and George Atuguba shot dead over alleged GH¢500,000 debt, police say
According to a report by Ghanaweb on Saturday, Oct 31, 2026, Police have opened a murder investigation after a skincare entrepreneur and her uncle were shot dead at their home at NTHC Estate, Sakumono, in the Greater Accra Region.
The victims are Irene Atuguba, 47, and her uncle, George Atuguba, 57. They were found lying in a pool of blood on Friday, October 30, 2026, after the Sakumono District Police Command received a report and sent officers to the scene. Both were rushed to hospital, where a medical officer pronounced them dead. Their bodies have been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Irene was the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Kussa Shea Bliss, a skincare brand. She was a vocal advocate of shea butter and had appeared on several health programmes, notably on UTV, where she shared her knowledge of skincare.
Preliminary police findings point to a possible financial dispute. George is alleged to have borrowed GH¢500,000 from a man and failed to repay it. Police say the principal suspect, Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, went to the residence that morning with a 47-year-old woman, Beatrice Mumuni, to demand the money. A confrontation reportedly followed, during which Osei Anto allegedly shot George and Irene.
In an update issued the same day, police announced the arrest of Mumuni. They say she allegedly led the principal suspect to the house before the killings. Osei Anto has been declared wanted, and the Ghana Police Service has announced a GH¢100,000 reward for credible information leading to his arrest.
Members of the public with information on his whereabouts are asked to contact the nearest police station or call the emergency numbers 191 or 18555.
The Accra Regional Police Command has assured the public that efforts are ongoing to track down the principal suspect and bring him to justice. Investigators are still working to establish the full circumstances of the killings. The allegations against both suspects are preliminary and have not been tested in court.
