Duduzile Zuma Daughter Of Jacob Zuma Joined EFF Massive Rally In Soweto Ahead Of Election

The political atmosphere in Soweto was charged on Saturday after Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla daughter of former president Jacob Zuma was spotted attending the Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) high-profile Tshela Thupa Rally at Orlando Stadium.

Her appearance at the massive gathering has sparked political intrigue, adding an unexpected twist to the red berets’ final campaign push ahead of South Africa’s highly anticipated Local Government Elections.

The rally held at the Orlando Amstel Arena, popularly known as Orlando Stadium, was branded by the EFF as the Mother of All Rallies. Thousands of enthusiastic supporters dressed in the party’s trademark red regalia streamed into the 40,000-capacity venue, turning the stadium into a sea of red.

Zuma-Sambudla’s presence attracted attention, particularly given the increasingly competitive political landscape and the emergence of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP), which has made significant inroads into voter support traditionally associated with the EFF.

Although her attendance does not automatically indicate a formal political alliance, it is likely to fuel conversations about political relationships and possible alignments ahead of the crucial elections.

The Tshela Thupa Rally is traditionally the EFF’s final major campaign gathering, providing party leader Julius Malema with an opportunity to rally supporters and communicate the party’s final message before voting day.

The party has placed several controversial and ambitious proposals at the centre of its election manifesto, including eliminating municipal tender systems, insourcing general workers and providing free basic services to qualifying grant beneficiaries.

However, the EFF faces a challenging electoral environment as it battles to protect its support base from growing competition, particularly from the MKP.

Pre-election polling suggests that the party’s support remains relatively stable at approximately 10%, similar to its performance in the 2021 Local Government Elections.

With the election battle reaching its final stages, Zuma-Sambudla’s appearance at the EFF biggest campaign gathering has become another talking point in South Africa increasingly unpredictable political landscape.
