Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, on Saturday in Osogbo, Osun State, inaugurated 30 campaign vehicles donated by the convener of PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, in support of the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign in the state.
The event, which was attended by a large number of APC and Accord Party supporters, also had in attendance the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru; Osun APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal; Osun Accord Party Chairman, Victor Akande; the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun; and the Director of Marine and Operations, Lekan Badmus, among others.
Reading Adeleke’s address, the Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, commended the unity of purpose and determination demonstrated by supporters across party lines in joining hands for the re-election of the President.
“We all gather here solely to promote and market President Tinubu for continuity. We are proud rainbow coalition members with strong belief in the leadership of Mr President,” Adeleke said.
Adeleke also commended the convener of the initiative, Government Ekpemupolo, describing the intervention as timely and in tandem with the needs of the presidential campaign council.
“Our gathering is therefore a timely push to gain further momentum in the campaign process. We must therefore forget past disagreements and unite to deliver for the President. All coalition partners have a duty to overlook all previous relationship antagonism and join hands to deliver between 1.5 to 2 million votes for Mr President.
“As we move out to the corners and grassroots of Osun society, I must repeat that our partnership and coalition unity is mainly based on the presidential election. None of the three partners has a deal on the forthcoming legislative elections.
“While we mobilise and deliver for Mr President, each coalition partner will work and campaign for their candidates for Senate, House of Representatives and the House of Assembly,” he further said.
He charged members of the door-to-door campaign to market President Tinubu beyond the Southern and Yoruba presidency, while also highlighting the ongoing Federal Government’s developmental projects in Osun, the imminent resolution of the local government crisis and the long-term benefits of the ongoing national economic reforms.
Delivering Oyetola’s address, the APC candidate in the last Osun governorship election, Bola Oyebamiji, noted the enthusiasm generated by President Tinubu’s re-election project, saying it had continued to attract support beyond the traditional boundaries of the APC and across party lines.
“This emerging political understanding is particularly remarkable in Osun State, where Governor Ademola Adeleke is coordinating the Rainbow Campaign Council for the President’s re-election. It demonstrates that the task of securing a second term for President Tinubu is bigger than individual political interests and party differences.
“There is no doubt that the presidential campaign of President Tinubu is highly visible and increasingly gaining momentum across the South-West. This gives us an enormous responsibility to ensure that the South-West delivers overwhelming votes for our leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the forthcoming general election.
“While other political parties and their candidates are yet to demonstrate comparable levels of coordination and organisation across the zone, we must not take anything for granted. I am particularly impressed by the massive mobilisation of the APC structure for today’s inauguration. Our target of mobilising 1.5 million votes for President Tinubu in Osun is achievable if we approach the assignment with unity, discipline and determination,” Oyetola said.
He charged voters to go beyond the presidential election and work for the victory of APC candidates contesting seats in the National and State Assemblies.
Earlier, the APC National Secretary, Basiru, charged the people to reward Tinubu’s various initiatives and projects with votes in the 2027 general elections. He cited the introduction of NELFUND and Federal Government-funded road projects, including the Ilesa-Ife-Ibadan Expressway, Osogbo-Gbongan Expressway and Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan roads in the state.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, Dr Kestin Pondi, who represented the donor, said Osun State must deliver 100 per cent votes for Tinubu in the 2027 poll, adding that Tompolo was mobilising support for the President because he put the country’s interest above other considerations.
Pondi said, “We are not just coming to inaugurate, we are also bringing to you campaign vehicles mounted with speakers and generators and amplifiers to make the campaign work very easily. I know when I met you at the government house, you told me 30 is not enough for Osun.
“And I have also promised you that we are going to look into it and we are going to do the needful. But just to tell you, sir, we are not just bringing only the vehicles, we are bringing other resources that are going to make the campaign seamless which is going to make us ensure that we garner the grassroots votes that we want from President Tinubu.”
The Osun State Coordinator for PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, Timothy Olanrewaju, while speaking at the event, assured national leaders of the group that Osun would deliver maximum votes for Tinubu in the presidential poll.
The PUNCH reports that Adeleke and Oyetola, despite the resolve of the Accord Party and APC in the state to forge an alliance and campaign for Tinubu’s re-election, have maintained a noticeable distance.
The gap between the two leaders manifested at the recent inauguration of the Osun State Presidential Campaign Council for Tinubu’s re-election by Adeleke, where Oyetola and many other APC leaders were absent.
