Violent Confrontation Broke Out in Katsina as APC, Opposition Party Supporters Clash
According to report by Nigerian Tribune on Saturday, October 31, 2026, a violent confrontation involving supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and suspected opposition party supporters in Katsina State has reportedly left one person dead and dozens of others injured.
The incident occurred on Saturday, October 31, 2026, in Yankara, Faskari Local Government Area, following a confrontation involving youths and the convoy of Governor Dikko Umar Radda, which was travelling to Faskari town for a political campaign.
Residents and eyewitnesses said the governor’s convoy encountered a procession of children celebrating Maulud along the highway.
According to them, some APC youths reportedly stepped out of their vehicles to control the crowd and create a passage for the governor’s convoy.
However, the action allegedly angered some opposition supporters gathered along the roadside, triggering tension between the two groups.
A Nigerian Tribune correspondent, who spoke with a Yankara resident, Saleh Bala, learnt that shortly after the governor’s vehicle passed through the community, some youths began shouting political slogans, including “Ba mu yi,” which translates to “We are not supporting.”
The situation reportedly escalated when some APC supporters in the convoy engaged the youths in a violent confrontation, resulting in the death of one person.
Bala alleged that several people sustained injuries as the APC supporters attacked their opponents with sticks, knives and machetes.
He also claimed that shops, Point of Sale (POS) centres and mobile phone charging businesses were looted during the violence.
He further alleged that some attackers broke into residential buildings, destroyed household properties and vandalised vehicles belonging to innocent residents.
According to him, an APC campaign vehicle was among those set ablaze, while several other vehicles in the governor’s convoy were damaged during the confrontation.
The latest violence comes barely three days after a similar incident occurred in Malumfashi Local Government Area when Governor Radda’s convoy was travelling to Funtua for the commencement of his re-election campaign.
Following that incident, the APC condemned the reported attack, while the police announced the arrest of 14 suspects in connection with the violence.
However, as of the time this report was filed, neither the APC nor the police had issued an official statement concerning Saturday’s deadly confrontation in Yankara.
