Wontumi Faces Possible Asset Confiscation as High Court Sets February 22 for Ruling
According to a report by TV3 Ghana on Friday, October 30, 2026, the High Court has scheduled February 22, 2027, to deliver its ruling on an application filed by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) seeking to confiscate assets belonging to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
The application is connected to the ongoing Eximbank fraud case, in which EOCO is seeking legal authority to take possession of assets allegedly linked to the case.
The court’s decision is expected to determine whether the assets identified by EOCO should be confiscated as part of efforts to address the alleged financial wrongdoing. The application forms part of the legal processes being pursued by the state in connection with the matter.
Chairman Wontumi, a prominent political figure in the NPP, has attracted public attention over the legal proceedings. The development has also generated interest among Ghanaians, particularly those following the investigations and court cases involving public figures and alleged financial misconduct.
EOCO is mandated to investigate and prosecute economic and organised crime, including financial offences that affect the country. Its application before the court is aimed at securing the legal basis for the confiscation of the assets in question.
With February 22 set as the date for the ruling, attention will now turn to the High Court’s decision. The outcome could have significant implications for the assets being targeted by EOCO and the broader legal proceedings surrounding the Eximbank fraud case.
Until the court delivers its ruling, the application remains pending, and the final decision rests with the presiding judge.
