Today’s Headlines: Tinubu cannot stop killings, yet seeks re-election – PRP, Obasanjo’s verdict, Amaechi’s record haunt ADC ticket, says Wike
The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, accusing his administration of failing to tackle widespread insecurity and poverty.
The party stated that Nigerians would continue to demand protection from kidnappers and killers, despite the All Progressives Congress (APC) kicking off campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a statement on Thursday, PRP National Chairman, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, described the APC’s recent rally in Kaduna as a staged attempt to portray popular support for the administration despite what he termed a poor track record.
He alleged that the event involved excessive expenditure of public resources while everyday Nigerians continue to face severe economic hardship and physical insecurity.
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has challenged former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to account for his eight years in office.
He alluded to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s past criticism of his former deputy as he questioned the presidential prospect of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general election.
Wike also queried the record of former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, arguing that his entry into the ADC had complicated the party’s presidential ticket.
The minister demanded explanations on projects and financial transactions during his eight-year administration.
Alhaji Abba Abubakar, son of former Vice-President Atiku, on Friday unveiled his 2027 mobilisation plan in the six geo-political zones for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.
The former vice-president’s son who is the founder and chairman of Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation (HBTO) a political mobilisation and support platform in Abuja at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretariat had earlier defected to the party.
“Looking ahead, HBTO is preparing for an ambitious nationwide political mobilisation programme.
“As part of this strategy, we intend to commence a two-million-man mobilisation march across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, beginning from Abuja.
“Our immediate mobilisation efforts will focus on supporting the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, whom we recognise as a key political leader in our mobilisation structure in the collective effort to secure Tinubu’s victory in the FCT in 2027.
