Reggae/Dancehall Rules Ghana Music โ€“ Ras Kuuku Fires

According to a report by UTV Ghana on Friday October 30, 2026, Ghanaian Reggae/Dancehall artiste Ras Kuuku has challenged the music industry to organise a major musical event featuring performers from different genres, insisting that such a competition would demonstrate the continued dominance of Reggae/Dancehall music in the country.

According to the award-winning musician, Reggae/Dancehall artistes have consistently maintained a strong position in Ghana’s music industry, and he believes their influence and performance capabilities would become more evident if they were given the opportunity to share the same stage with musicians from other genres.

Speaking on The Group Chat Podcast on UTV Ghana, Ras Kuuku expressed confidence in the strength of the Reggae/Dancehall fraternity, arguing that a properly organised show involving artistes from different musical backgrounds would provide an opportunity for audiences to judge the various genres based on their performances and ability to entertain.

He maintained that Reggae/Dancehall continues to command significant attention and influence within Ghana’s entertainment industry, suggesting that its dominance would be difficult to overlook if artistes from the genre were placed in direct competition with performers from other musical categories.

“Put Reggae/Dancehall artistes on a show alongside artistes from other music genres in Ghana, and youโ€™ll see why Reggae/Dancehall continues to dominate,” Ras Kuuku stated.

His comments have added to the ongoing conversation about the popularity, influence and competitive strength of different music genres in Ghana.

The Ghanaian music industry has witnessed the growth of several musical styles, including Afrobeats, Hiplife, Hip-hop, Gospel, Highlife and Reggae/Dancehall, with artistes across these categories competing for audiences, recognition and prominence.

Ras Kuuku’s remarks suggest that he believes Reggae/Dancehall deserves greater recognition and that its performers should be given platforms that allow them to demonstrate their musical strength alongside artistes from other genres.

The statement has also sparked discussions about which musical genre currently commands the strongest influence in Ghana’s entertainment industry.
