R2 Billion Kaizer Chiefs Offer: Bobby Motaung Explains Why the Club Is Not for Sale

Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has thrown his full support behind head coach Fernando Da Cruz and his technical team despite the club’s inconsistent results this season. Motaung believes the French coach has the quality and long-term vision needed to improve the team, insisting that patience and stability will be important as Amakhosi continue their rebuilding process.

Da Cruz joined Chiefs at the beginning of the season, replacing the co-coaching duo of Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef. Under their leadership last season, the Soweto giants reached the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup and finished in the top three of the Betway Premiership.

However, Da Cruz has faced challenges in his first season in charge. Chiefs have struggled to produce consistent league results, collecting five draws in their last six matches. They currently occupy fifth position with 14 points, nine behind league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played one more game.

The club has also suffered disappointment in cup competitions, exiting the MTN8 in the first round before being eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup at the preliminary stage.

Despite these setbacks, Motaung remains confident in the technical team and believes the club must focus on its long-term objectives rather than make decisions based on short-term results.

Speaking on Marawa Sports Worldwide, Motaung praised Da Cruz’s management of the dressing room, his tactical approach and his willingness to give opportunities to young players such as Wandile Duba and Mfundo Vilakazi.

He also pointed to injuries and the challenges of adapting to the demands of South African football as factors that have affected the team. According to Motaung, the club has invested in professional facilities and resources to help the coaching staff prepare players and improve performances.

Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly rejected a R2 billion offer from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) to buy the club. The comments come after the club turned down the Saudi proposal, which was reportedly valued at R2 billion. Bobby Motaung dismissed the approach, saying: “Kaizer Chiefs is a Motaung legacy and no amount of money will make them sell Kaizer Chiefs for R2 billion.” The reported bid highlights growing international interest in South African football, but the Soweto giants have made it clear that their ownership structure will remain unchanged.

Motaung’s comments underline the club’s commitment to its existing project and its belief that progress requires time. He stressed that Chiefs need a coach who understands the unique demands of the Premier Soccer League and can develop players capable of competing at the highest level.

For Amakhosi supporters, the immediate challenge remains improving results on the pitch. However, the club’s leadership appears determined to give Da Cruz an opportunity to implement his ideas, with Motaung maintaining that the coach has the ability and experience required to take the team forward.
