‘Our Loyalty Is to Nigerians, Not Tinubu’ — Tinubu Must Go Movement Breaks Silence Ahead of 2027

According to a report by DAILY POST on Thursday, October 29, 2026, the Tinubu Must Go Movement (TMG) is gaining increasing attention across Northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, as economic hardship, insecurity and demands for government accountability continue to influence public opinion.

Barrister Hamza Nuhu Dantani, a co-founder of the movement, explained that its campaign was motivated by the economic difficulties facing ordinary Nigerians, particularly the rising cost of living and the effects of government policies.

Speaking to DAILY POST, Dantani clarified that the movement’s position was not based on personal hostility towards President Bola Tinubu but rather dissatisfaction with the policies and performance of his administration.

“We do not hate President Tinubu as a person. Our concern is with his administration, its policies, and their impact on the lives of ordinary Nigerians,” he said.

He identified increasing petrol prices, the rising cost of essential commodities and persistent insecurity as some of the major challenges confronting Nigerians. He added that the movement was demanding economic relief, improved security and greater accountability from those in government.

Dantani further maintained that TMG would operate within the law and remain committed to peaceful activities. He stressed that the organisation would continue demanding accountability from future administrations that failed to deliver on their promises.

“Our loyalty is not to any individual or political party; it is to the Nigerian people and the future of our country,” he added.

Meanwhile, Professor Murtala Muhammad, National Vice-President of the Nigerian Political Science Association, observed that the movement was beginning to attract support among some young people in Northern Nigeria.

He attributed the growing interest to unemployment, poverty, insecurity, economic difficulties and declining purchasing power. However, he warned that public attention alone would not guarantee lasting political relevance.

Muhammad explained that the movement’s chances of influencing the 2027 elections would depend on its organisational capacity, grassroots mobilisation, geographical coverage and ability to convert public dissatisfaction into electoral support.

He noted that TMG could influence closely contested constituencies by mobilising dissatisfied voters, attracting undecided citizens and building cooperation with opposition groups.

“Electoral outcomes in Nigeria are shaped by the interplay of public dissatisfaction, credible alternatives, effective mobilisation, coalition-building, candidate credibility, and the capacity to translate political sentiment into votes,” he said.

However, Muhammad cautioned that any reduction in Tinubu’s or the APC’s popularity in Northern Nigeria should not be blamed entirely on the movement, noting that government performance, political networks and the credibility of opposition parties would also influence voters’ decisions.
