The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency successfully resolved 528 complaints against Ikeja Electric Distribution Company between January and September 2026, recovering over 26.2 million naira in refunds and credit adjustments for affected electricity customers across the state.

According to a report by Punch Newspaper on Friday, October 30, 2026, while official records showed 556 complaints submitted over nine months, the consumer protection body achieved a 95 percent resolution rate with only 28 cases remaining under active investigation.

Agency General Manager Afolabi Solebo reaffirmed their ongoing commitment to promoting fairness, transparency, and accountability across the power distribution sector, highlighting how mediation helps protect consumer rights while securing appropriate financial redress for affected utility users.

Complaints Department Head Yusuf Musiliu explained that regular stakeholder parleys allow company officials and aggrieved consumers to meet directly, review submitted documentation like payment receipts, and settle billing disputes amicably without resorting to self-help options.

Regulatory officials advised dissatisfied electricity customers to provide supporting evidence when lodging complaints through official channels, emphasizing that clear payment records and formal billing documentation help streamline investigation procedures and accelerate dispute resolution timelines.

The consumer agency holds monthly stakeholder meetings every last Thursday to give residents a dedicated public forum to directly address unresolved complaints concerning estimated billing, arbitrary charges, overbilling practices, and general electricity supply issues.
