Not Tolerated By Coach Da Cruz Says Vilakazi But Not Completely
Kaizer Chiefs attacking midfielder Mfundo Vilakazi has talked about how his game play has matured under the guidance of Fernando Da Cruz, particularly regarding his flair for showboating, noting that the coach is relatively tolerant of it.
The 20 year old Vilakazi has received accolades for his entertaining skills but has often faced criticism for his display of those skills, especially during last season, with some asserting that his showboating has not contributed positively to the teams offensive efforts.
Ahead of the forthcoming Soweto derby in the Betway Premiership against Orlando Pirates, the South African junior international stated that Da Cruz is aware of his playing style.
While he has been advised on when it is appropriate to showboat, he acknowledges the necessity of the team benefiting from his approach. βWhen the coach came on board, he informed me that he understands my style of play,β Vilakazi mentioned.
βHowever, there are times when it is unnecessary for me to engage in those actions, and I should refrain from doing so. But he never implied that I should cease it altogether. I also remind myself that the team success is what matters most.
βIf the team is not achieving positive results, I cannot afford to be preoccupied with tricks and such; perhaps I could do that once we start winning. But sometimes, these things happen spontaneously; they are not always planned.β
