Bheki Mtolo Condemns Zuma’s Treatment of Sibonelo Nomvalo, Warns Parties Against Recruiting Him

Former ANC KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Secretary Bheki Mtolo has strongly criticised the treatment of former uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) Secretary-General Sibonelo Nomvalo, arguing that no genuine revolutionary should celebrate what he describes as the cruelty inflicted on the former senior party official.

Mtolo’s remarks follow Nomvalo’s removal from his position by MKP president Jacob Zuma, a development that has triggered political debate about internal leadership struggles, political loyalty and the treatment of senior figures within the organisation.

In his assessment, Mtolo believes that what happened to Nomvalo should not be viewed as a political victory or an opportunity for opponents to celebrate someone’s downfall. Instead, he argues that the circumstances surrounding the former secretary-general’s departure deserve serious reflection.

He specifically cautioned political parties against rushing to approach Nomvalo with recruitment offers, warning that such moves could be motivated by political opportunism rather than genuine concern for his wellbeing.

According to Mtolo, attempts to recruit Nomvalo immediately after his removal could amount to exploiting a person who is still dealing with the consequences of a difficult political experience.

He believes the former MKP secretary-general should be given sufficient time to recover emotionally and politically before deciding what direction his future should take.

“That would be recruitment meant for exploitation. Let’s allow him to heal, then once he has healed he can make his sober next move,” Mtolo argued.

His comments suggest that political parties should resist the temptation to turn Nomvalo’s departure into an immediate recruitment opportunity, particularly while questions surrounding his removal remain politically sensitive.

Mtolo also delivered a scathing assessment of the MKP, making it clear that he believes the organisation’s conduct towards Nomvalo should have serious consequences for its political standing.

He insisted that the MKP must never be forgiven by any sane black person, using particularly strong language to express his condemnation of what he believes has happened.

The intervention adds another political dimension to the controversy surrounding Nomvalo’s removal and the internal dynamics of the party led by Zuma.

Nomvalo has previously indicated that he was not surprised by his removal, claiming that it was based on what he described as fabricated intelligence presented to Zuma.

His departure has raised further questions about internal accountability, leadership disagreements and the future of senior officials within the MKP.

Mtolo’s message is that Nomvalo should be allowed to recover before making another political decision, rather than becoming an immediate target of competing political parties seeking to benefit from his departure.
