Mfundo Vilakazi Reveals Fernando Da Cruz’s Message About Showboating at Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs attacking midfielder Mfundo Vilakazi has spoken about the development of his game under coach Fernando Da Cruz, particularly regarding his approach to showboating and entertaining supporters during matches.

The young midfielder has attracted attention for his technical ability, confidence on the ball and willingness to take on opponents. His entertaining style has made him an exciting player to watch, but there have also been discussions about the importance of balancing individual brilliance with the team’s overall objectives.

Vilakazi has now explained how his understanding of the game has developed under Da Cruz, suggesting that he has become more conscious of when to express himself and when to prioritise the team’s needs.

The Chiefs youngster indicated that his coach has helped him understand that certain actions should only be attempted when they are necessary and beneficial to the team. Rather than completely discouraging his natural style, the message appears to be about making better decisions during important moments.

Explaining his understanding of the instructions, Vilakazi said: “If it’s not necessary for me to do those things I shouldn’t. But he didn’t say that I shouldn’t ever do it. But even I have told myself that the team comes first.”

His comments suggest that he has not been asked to abandon the entertaining qualities that make him different from other players. Instead, he is learning to recognise situations where showboating can help create opportunities and moments when keeping possession or making a simple pass is the better decision.

For a young footballer developing his career at a club with the expectations of Kaizer Chiefs, understanding tactical discipline is an important part of becoming a complete player. Supporters may appreciate skills and impressive individual performances, but coaches also expect players to contribute to the team’s success.

Vilakazi’s remarks demonstrate his growing awareness of those responsibilities. At this stage of his development, combining creativity with discipline could help him become a more effective attacking midfielder.

Under Da Cruz’s guidance, the youngster appears determined to maintain his confidence and natural flair while making decisions that benefit Kaizer Chiefs. His approach reflects an important lesson for any promising player: individual talent is valuable, but putting the team’s interests first remains essential.
