Letsholonyane Sends Strong Message To Chiefs Players Amid Pressure

Kaizer Chiefs legend Reneilwe Letsholonyane believes Amakhosi have enough quality within their squad to compete for trophies this season, but insists the responsibility now rests with the players to deliver results.

The former Chiefs midfielder has shared his assessment of the team’s performances, pointing out that he initially saw encouraging signs in the way the Soweto giants started the campaign.

According to Letsholonyane, Chiefs appeared more organised in their approach compared to what he had witnessed from the club over a long period. However, he believes tactical organisation alone cannot guarantee success if the players fail to produce the required performances on the pitch.

“When the league started, I remember saying that this was the most organised Chiefs that I’ve seen in a very long time. They looked organised in how they played,” Letsholonyane said, as quoted by iDiski Times.

Despite acknowledging the improvements in the team’s structure, the former midfielder believes the players must take greater responsibility for the club’s fortunes.

He emphasised that football ultimately depends on the individuals who step onto the pitch, meaning the players must demonstrate their commitment through hard work, determination and consistent performances.

“But in the end, the people that are playing are the players. The players must also work hard, put in more effort, grind out the results and show who they really are and that they want it,” he added.

His comments come as Chiefs continue their efforts to establish consistency under head coach Fernando Da Cruz.

The French tactician has been tasked with improving the team’s performances and building a competitive side capable of challenging for major honours.

However, results remain an important measure of progress at a club where supporters expect to compete for trophies every season.

Letsholonyane’s assessment suggests that while the technical structure and tactical organisation are important, the players must also take responsibility for turning those improvements into positive results.

Chiefs have invested in strengthening their squad, with several players expected to play important roles as the season progresses. The challenge now is maintaining consistency and delivering when opportunities arise.

For Da Cruz, getting the best out of his squad will remain a major priority, but Letsholonyane believes the players themselves must respond to the demands of representing a club with Chiefs’ history and expectations.

The former Amakhosi star’s message is clear: having quality and a well-organised team is not enough. The players must show their determination on the pitch and back it up with results if Chiefs are to challenge for silverware this season.
