Kalonzo Finally Reveals His Next Move If Sifuna Is Handed the Opposition’s 2027 Presidential Ticket

Wiper Party chief Kalonzo Musyoka has stated that he is willing to back Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna should opposition leaders pick him as their presidential flag bearer in the 2027 General Election.

Kalonzo made the declaration on Friday, October 30, at the launch of the Linda Mwananchi Movement headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi. The occasion drew numerous opposition leaders who assembled to demonstrate their backing for the new political outfit.

Speaking to the crowd, the ex-vice president said he was ready to support Sifuna if opposition leaders opted to hand him the presidential ticket in his place.

His statement comes amid mounting conversations among opposition politicians over who should head their team in the contest against President William Ruto in 2027.

Other notable figures working to unify the opposition include ex-Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and DAP-K chief Eugene Wamalwa.

Nevertheless, the leaders have yet to settle on who will be their flag bearer, with a number of politicians voicing interest in the nation’s highest office. At the event, Kalonzo also encouraged Sifuna to observe the necessary political procedures before being considered for the presidential ticket.

He noted that the senator would need to hold on until November 13, when the ongoing party processes are expected to offer greater clarity.

His comments met with pushback from some supporters, who repeatedly chanted Sifuna’s name and insisted that he be given a chance to become Kenya’s next president.

The atmosphere grew tense, compelling Sifuna to step in and urge his supporters to show respect to the senior leaders present at the event.

Kalonzo further reminded those in attendance that Wiper delegates had already endorsed his presidential bid at a party conference held on October 10, 2025.

His newest declaration has introduced a fresh twist to the opposition’s succession debate as leaders keep working to agree on a single candidate to take on Ruto in the upcoming elections.
