Kalonzo Announces His Next Move If the Opposition Gives Sifuna the 2027 Presidential Ticket

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has declared his willingness to support Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna for the presidency if he fails to secure the opposition’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Kalonzo made the declaration on Friday, October 30, during the launch of the Linda Mwananchi Movement headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi, where several opposition leaders gathered to show their support for the new political outfit.

Addressing the gathering, the former Vice President said he was ready to stand with Sifuna if opposition leaders settled on another candidate to challenge President William Ruto.

“Sifuna, I will stand with you if I am not the candidate,” Kalonzo stated.

His remarks came amid growing debate over who should carry the opposition’s presidential flag in the 2027 elections. Several senior leaders, including Kalonzo, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, have expressed interest in working together to challenge Ruto.

However, the question of who should lead the opposition ticket remains unresolved.

During the same event, Kalonzo urged Sifuna to follow the proper procedures before being declared a presidential candidate. He pointed out that the Nairobi senator would have to wait until November 13, when the relevant party processes are expected to clarify the matter.

His comments attracted resistance from sections of the crowd, who repeatedly chanted Sifuna’s name and called for him to become president.

The situation became tense, forcing Sifuna to intervene and ask supporters to respect the leaders who had attended the event.

Kalonzo also reminded the gathering that he had received a mandate to seek the presidency through a Wiper delegates’ conference held on October 10, 2025.

The latest declaration adds another twist to the opposition’s succession debate as leaders continue efforts to agree on one candidate to face Ruto in 2027.
