Hii Ni Kenya?” Kenyans React After Soda-Laden Lorry Overturns in Nyeri, No Looting Reported

Motorists and pedestrians were left surprised after hundreds of soda bottles were scattered along the Nyeri-Mweiga Road following an accident involving a lorry near Dedan Kimathi University.

The incident occurred after the truck, which was reportedly transporting a consignment of soft drinks, overturned, causing its cargo to spill onto the road.

Images and videos from the scene showed hundreds of soda bottles lying scattered across the roadside, with some appearing to have broken during the accident. The overturned lorry also attracted the attention of passersby and other road users who stopped to witness what had happened.

Despite the large quantity of goods exposed following the accident, no cases of looting were reported. This stood out as members of the public appeared to refrain from taking advantage of the situation to carry away the spilled drinks.

The incident also sparked conversations about the conduct of Kenyans whenever accidents involving trucks transporting valuable goods occur.

In some previous incidents across the country, members of the public have been accused of rushing to accident scenes to collect goods from overturned trucks, sometimes leaving drivers and other occupants struggling to deal with the aftermath.

However, the situation along the Nyeri-Mweiga Road appeared different, as the spilled soda bottles remained at the scene without reports of members of the public stealing them.

It was not immediately established what caused the lorry to overturn or whether anyone sustained injuries during the incident.

The accident serves as a reminder to motorists to exercise caution on the roads, particularly when transporting heavy or delicate cargo, to avoid incidents that could endanger other road users.
