GTEC Turns Institutional Assets into Revenue with 12-Unit Guest Lodge
The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has inaugurated a 12-unit guest lodge as part of measures to diversify its income sources and strengthen its financial capacity.
The facility is expected to provide hospitality services while generating additional revenue to support the Commission’s operations.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, GTEC Director-General, Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, said the project was designed to demonstrate the importance of effective asset management, quality service delivery and institutional accountability.
He explained that revenue generated from the guest lodge would be reinvested in the Commission’s activities, helping to support its operations and reduce financial pressures.
Professor Jinapor Abdulai described the facility as a practical demonstration of the kind of resource management practices GTEC expects from tertiary institutions under its regulatory supervision.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has encouraged the Commission to consider expanding the facility by introducing additional services and amenities.
She emphasised the need for management to maintain high standards of cleanliness, proper maintenance and efficient operations to ensure the lodge meets the expectations of its users.
According to the Minister, facilities of this nature can play an important role in promoting professional development, institutional partnerships and the exchange of knowledge.
She noted that the guest lodge could serve as a suitable environment for meetings, training programmes and collaborative activities that support Ghana’s broader development objectives.
Ms Gomashie urged GTEC management to sustain the facility’s standards and ensure it remains safe, comfortable and conducive to productive engagements.
The commissioning forms part of GTEC’s efforts to make better use of its institutional assets while creating additional opportunities to support its mandate in Ghana’s tertiary education sector.
