“Ground Shifting?” Latest Polls Show Who Is Likely to Win if Presidential Election Were Held Today

If the presidential race were between William Ruto and Kalonzo Musyoka, who would Kenyans choose? This question is likely to spark fresh political debate as the country prepares for the 2027 General Election.

In the 2022 presidential election, William Ruto emerged victorious after securing 7,176,141 votes, representing 50.49 per cent of the votes cast. His closest challenger, Raila Odinga, received 6,942,930 votes.

Ruto’s victory gave him the mandate to become Kenya’s fifth President, but the next election could present a different political contest if Kalonzo decides to challenge him directly.

The debate comes at a time when both leaders are attracting attention through their political engagements ahead of the 2027 polls.

On October 26, Ruto made fresh efforts to woo Kalonzo during his development tour of the Ukambani region. The President reminded residents that he had previously campaigned for the Wiper leader and urged him to return the favour in 2027.

However, Kalonzo has also been holding discussions with opposition leaders as they explore ways of building a united political front against the current administration.

On the same day, the Wiper leader met former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County, where they discussed possible political cooperation ahead of the next election.

The engagements have placed Kalonzo at the centre of growing political discussions, especially as leaders continue positioning themselves for the presidential contest.

Although Ruto secured more than half of the valid votes cast in 2022, the 2027 election will give voters another opportunity to decide who should lead the country.

With political alliances changing and campaigns gradually taking shape, Kenyans are already discussing possible presidential matchups.
