Former Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (Idac) head Advocate Andrea Johnson and former deputy head of Crime Intelligence Feroz Khan have reportedly been arrested.

It is believed the duo were handcuffed on Friday morning in connection with allegations of defeating the ends of justice and matters relating to arrest warrants.

Police spokesperson Colonel Amanda van Wyk, without naming the officials, said the arrests relate to a woman who opened an assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm case at the Silverton police station after sustaining injuries.

“Investigation so far has revealed that one of the suspects, the female suspect, a former National Prosecuting Authority employee at the time, had interfered with the particular case that was reported at Silverton.”

Van Wyk confirmed that a former Saps employee and a former NPA employee, both aged 56, had been arrested and were expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court.

She said further arrests had not been ruled out.

“At this stage, we cannot rule out any further arrests as the investigation uncovers more information.”

Van Wyk added that investigators were confident in the evidence gathered so far. We are quite confident in the evidence that they’ve collected so far.”

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana confirmed that “the matter of the former IDAC boss is appearing at Pretoria Magistrates Court.”

The defeating the ends of justice charge relates to allegations that Johnson provided Khan with information from a case opened against him by Crime Intelligence officer Manana Leonora Phetlhe for alleged harassment and assault.

It is alleged that Khan reviewed Phetlhe’s version of events before preparing his warning statement, giving him an advantage in responding to the allegations.

Former Hawks colonel Kobus Roelofse told the Madlanga Commission that Johnson compromised a criminal investigation involving Khan.

Roelofse, a former senior investigator with the Hawks, testified before the commission in Pretoria on 10 July 2026, where he detailed concerns about how the case was handled and the impact the alleged interference had on the investigation.

He argued that the actions in question undermined the integrity of the criminal process involving Khan.

His evidence centred on claims that Johnson improperly involved herself in a 2018 criminal complaint against Khan.

Khan’s arrest follows his dismissal from the South African Police Service (Saps) after he failed to appear before the designated senior officer overseeing an expedited disciplinary process.

Johnson, meanwhile, resigned as Idac head in July after facing damaging testimony before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

She testified in response to allegations that Idac unlawfully operates outside of its mandate and pursued a criminal case against Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo and other officials at Crime Intelligence.

Proceedings before the commission also revealed that Johnson and Khan allegedly shared a close personal relationship that extended beyond their professional roles, a matter that came under scrutiny during the inquiry.

Earlier this month, the Madlanga commission’s proceedings were disrupted after the commission postponed Khan’s testimony following the fatal shooting of his uncle-in-law, Preggy Padayachee.

Padayachee was killed in a shooting on the R21 near Griffiths Road, Ekurhuleni, in what is suspected to be a hit.

The postponement follows a series of delays and disputes over Khan’s participation.

Khan failed to attend proceedings on 28 September despite being offered the option to testify virtually after undergoing an independent medical assessment.

He has faced several allegations before the commission, including claims of links to businessmen associated with tobacco company Carnilinx, Johnson and alleged cartel figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
