Bobby Motaung Fires Warning to Kaizer Chiefs Critics, Insists Fernando Da Cruz Is Going Nowhere

Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has delivered a strong message to supporters demanding changes in the technical team, making it clear that head coach Fernando Da Cruz will continue receiving the club’s backing despite an inconsistent start to the season.

Motaung has defended the French coach, insisting that Naturena is not a football circus where managers are dismissed whenever results fail to meet expectations. His comments underline the club’s intention to maintain stability and follow its long-term football project rather than make decisions based on immediate pressure.

Speaking on Marawa Sports Worldwide, Motaung expressed satisfaction with Da Cruz’s work and praised the authority he has established within the dressing room.

“I’m happy. My coach owns the change room, controls the change room. If you hear how people are fired in other clubs or whatever, we’re not in a circus game,” Motaung said.

Da Cruz took over from the co-coaching partnership of Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef, who previously guided Amakhosi to the CAF Confederation Cup group stage and a third-place finish in the domestic league.

Although his appointment initially produced encouraging results, recent performances have raised concerns among supporters. Chiefs have collected five draws in their last six league matches, leaving them fifth on the Premiership table with 14 points, nine behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played one additional match.

The disappointing run has been accompanied by early cup exits, with Amakhosi eliminated from the MTN8 in the first round before suffering another setback in the preliminary stage of the Confederation Cup.

However, Motaung believes the club must remain committed to the project agreed upon with the coach instead of allowing short-term disappointment to dictate its decisions.

“We’re looking at the vision and forward thinking, and we’re looking at a plan that we agreed on with the coach long term,” he explained.

He also highlighted Da Cruz’s willingness to trust younger players, pointing to Wandile Duba and Mfundo Vilakazi as examples of footballers benefiting from the coach’s confidence.

Motaung further praised the technical preparation, tactical organisation and work being done behind the scenes, arguing that the improvements should not be judged exclusively through match results.

He acknowledged that injuries have also complicated the team’s progress, insisting that rebuilding a competitive squad requires patience.

For Chiefs supporters hoping for another coaching shake-up, Motaung’s message is unmistakable: Da Cruz has the backing of the club hierarchy, and immediate dismissal is not part of the plan.
